What is a goal setting strategy?
A goal setting strategy encompasses the whole process of planning and working towards your goal.
The Collins dictionary defines strategy as overall plan. Considering this, a goal setting strategy covers everything from deciding what your goal is, what the steps are, what obstacles you can expect.
Importantly, a strategy will include the steps required to achieve your goal. You goal setting strategy can be considered as your blueprint, and it is suggested have this written down.
Using the holiday scenario again:
You decide where you want to go.
Usually, you want to know what can be done at the holiday destination (swimming, hiking, horse riding, etc.)
You plan the trip: where to get gas, where to eat, where to sleep over, etc.
You make all the necessary reservations before you leave.
You pay the required deposits (depending where you're going, you get the necessary innoculations).
The departure day arrives, and you start the journey.
When you get tired, you stop and take a break.
etc., etc.
In essence, you prepare and plan every step of teh journey. And that is what your goal setting strategy is: your preparation and working plan for accomplishing your goal.
