Make it Your Goal to Sell What You KNow...

...that is, Make Your Knowledge Sell

How I Review a Resource. This opens in a new window.

You can turn what's in your gray matter into money. This book gives you everything you need to extract what you know and turn that into a profitable infoproduct.

Make Your Knowledge Sell (MYKS) By Monique Harris and Ken Evoy, comprises the following:

  • The Main Volume -- This is the centerpoint of "Make Your Knowledge Sell!" -- all the other volumes revolve around this one.
  • Table of Contents (TOC) -- a terrific navigational aid for the Main Volume of Make Your Knowledge Sell!
  • Index -- invaluable for getting the info you need out of the Main Volume ... FAST!
  • eBook Secrets -- This book complements and supplements MYKS! wonderfully, adding depth from an infoproduct creator and marketer with vast offline direct marketing experience and now with online expertise and success, too.
  • 186 Marketing Places and 120 New Marketing Places -- Nowhere else in the world will you find such a complete resource for promoting and selling your infoproducts.
  • Jump Start Kit -- Use its many checklists, templates, and guides every time you create or update a Web site, launch an information product, create a new promotional campaign, or simply to keep yourself on the road to success.
  • Buying and Selling Reprint Rights -- The definitive guide to buying and selling reprint rights on the Net.
  • The Automation Manual -- The key is automating your order-processing and delivery. Automation is where your business really takes off!

If you're in a hurry, you can read The Bottom Line here.

The Main Volume

To the Top

“The Internet has been, and always will be, a sanctuary for the distribution of knowledge. And as more and more people make the journey towards Netizenship, the online world will only continue to be a prime information source.”

That is the statement made on page 16, and this is the nucleus of the principle of Make Your knowledge Sell. This is what it's about!

Chapter 2 is motivational and encouraging, as well as realistic - there is no easy-go, get-rich-quick hype here.

“Reading books, e-zines and Web sites is no good, unless you’re prepared to go to the next level, and put that advice into motion.” Absolutely prime advice - You CAN do it!

If you are concerned about thinking of getting ideas to write about, don't worry. You are given six action steps just to get your ideas - before writing anything! And in addition there are 50 infoproduct ideas!

At the time of writing this review, I have 5 ideas for e-books already. Watch this space :-)

You get details of how to package your information - a variety of formats are given; you are even given recommendations for the software to use.

If you don't think you can come up with a title for your infoproduct - forget it! You get seven amazing steps to create an original, and powerful title. And if that's not enough... there are 33 amazing title templates!

If you work in a writing profession, be that technical writing, copywriting, or journalism, you may want to skip over the polishing and writing section (although I found it to be a great refresher). And if you're not in the writing field, this section is awesome...

“Writing fiction is not like writing nonfiction. It takes a true gift to write great fiction. But if you know your subject matter, you (and anyone else) can write solid nonfiction.”

The laws about copyright are also covered in some detail. For my South African readers, you can rest assured, the information given on copyright is in accordance with international laws - and that includes South Africa.

If you want to supply your infoproduct to the large stores, you will need an ISBN and bar code, and this is also covered in some detail.

If you think MYKS stops with the writing of your infoproduct, think again. You are also coached on how to package it, with some great ideas for adding value, a lot of it free. You are even guided with the pricing of your infoproduct.

When everything is done, you need to get your infoproduct known in the market. And this too, is covered.

A 5-step promotional strategy is given...

Need ideas to sell? Well... there are techniques to generate a new order EVERY DAY.

In the "Questions Answered" section, there is a mountain of valuable information. You are also told which are online promotional losers, thus saving you money.

Remembering that "Life is a package deal", you are even given strategies to follow in the event that your infoproduct doesn't perform as well as you expect. There is a great checklist, giving you the things to consider to change.

Want to establish your own affliate program... or want to join one... there is a mammoth list of sites... FULL details are given on signing up your own affiliates.

There are 10 great steps for branding you as the guru, the expert...

Chapter 10, in my view, has priceless advice, in the encouragement that is given here. The following from this chapter, “If you work smartly ‘til midnight for a year… if you create an original, needed infoproduct… if you market well… if you create a site that sells… you’ve again determined the level of your success – this time a very high level of success.”

eBook Secrets

To the Top

This book gives a realistic insight into the e-book business.

The book opens with the fundamentals of e-books, taking the newbie from the ground up.

“Have you got a month or less to put your work or hobby experience together for a “How-To” manual?” And that is the essence of this great opportunity.

You will also find a motivating discussion on the business of creating your e-book. And of course, the really great thing about this business is, “If you shift house or district – or even country – your email and orders follow you there. Want to operate from another state, or country? Not a problem.”

You will also get valuable ideas on choosing the right business name, as well as a detailed discussion on planning your e-book. Whether your e-book is big or small, you are given all the details to handle it.

And on page 115, you find a jewel of advice: “But often people ask me – “What if I don’t want to write about moneymaking subjects? What if I want to write about knitting jerseys, making sofa coverings or computer tips?” Then I have to say – you will get that much further ahead if your topic concentrates on the subject so dear to practically everyone’s hearts – making money from the knowledge you give them.”

Everything you can possibly want to know about creating, planning, marketing - actually EVERYTHING about the e-book business is here.

I would recommend reading this volume before the main volume.

186 Places to Promote and Sell Your Information Product

To the Top

Geez... 186 places where you can promote or sell your infoproduct - and it's not only web sites, but newsgroups too.

Subjects include Finance, Children, Health, Travel, Women and Newsletter Promotion. Certainly a treasure chest of information, that would take you months to find.

120 New Places to Promote and Sell Your Information Product

To the Top

Yikes... as if the 186 places aren't enough, here is a list of another 120 places that you can sell your infoproduct.

These places are divided into different categories, including, Business, Health, Newsletters, Videos, and E-book Publishers.

Jump Start Kit

To the Top

This volume is a collection of checklists, templates, submission guides - everything you need to make life a little easier, and more effective - in relation to your project.

There are weekly action plans, a master marketing module. And there is a 4-Month Heavy Hitter Promotional Plan - that is absolutely priceless.

The Weekly Progress Report Form is used to track your progress.

Some of the checklists include:

  • "30 Days Before Launch" checklist
  • "Order Page" checklist
  • "Before You Advertise" checklist

It's all there!

Templates include:

  • "Request for Interview"
  • "Article Submission"
  • "Sample E-zine"

The submission guides include a load of links.

The 4-Month Heavy-Hitter plan is remarkable. “The 4-Month Heavy-Hitter Promotional Plan is your roadmap to success.”

“Do you have, and are you following, a cohesive plan that guides your marketing and sales? Most people just wake up and say, “Hmmm… today I’ll write an article.” That’s why most folks fail.”

Included are also 17 Weekly action plans... for Marketing... Affiliate Programs...

"Tracking Your Progress" is in my view invaluable. You use this as an assessment for your promotional campaign.

Buying and Selling Reprint Rights

To the Top

If you really don't see fit to create your own infoproduct, here is the answer. Or you may want to sell the reprint rights of your product.

You are given cautionary advice, in what to be careful of. What types of products there are, and what are good and what are bad.

There are details on how to find products that have resell rights.

Also included is a template agreement, which although detailed, you are advised to have it checked by your lawyer.

The Automation Manual

To the Top

You'll find information here that "frees you up from the menial tasks so that you can focus on the interesting stuff".

You get details of letting someone else do it all for you, and the pros and cons are given objectively. Hard goods are discussed, and you are given where they are and what they do.

There is a discussion on digital goods, with details of how to go about contacting and setting up.

And then there is also a section for DIY. You are given details on what you need to automate your project.

You are given details on how to operate is you have a merchant Merchant account...

...as well as if you do not have a merchant account.

“There is simply no reason that you cannot automate your business so that your business works while you play.”

The Bottom Line

To the Top

On the minus side

Something that is not even worth a mention: you will find a few (and I mean a few!) typographical errors... Example, "I wanted try my hand...", should be "I wanted [to] try my hand...".

In my view, a person should not be misled into believing that every infoproduct will turn the author into a millionaire. Information that deals with making money, improving business success, or helping people succeed tend to have a chance of selling in greater numbers.

The web being what it is, in that it changes practically daily, there are links that don't function.

As with all three books I have, Make Your Site Sell, Make Your Words Sell, and Make Your Knowledge Sell, it is typical Ken Evoy style. He repeats cardinal information, which makes it ideal for the newbie, in that it drives home the point.

The bottom-bottom line...

Without a doubt, a worthwhile investment. You will not find this amount of information in one place, anywhere else. And if you wanted to dig out all this information from the numerous sources... you WILL pay more!
