"Goal Setting Web Log - January"

It went up on 19 January! The site that is :o)

Is Site Build It all it is claimed to be? Will it perform as the owner, Ken Evoy, says it will? Only time will tell. Whatever happens, all will be revealed here.

With the site now up and running - small tweaks to be ironed out - I will be concentrating on the eaziGOAL manual, and testing the companion software. This will only be released when it is an absolute excellent product. There is no place for second best.

We're having somewhat of a drought in South Africa, and this week we had some great rain. I trust this will bring relief to the farming community.

I had the misfortune of again experiencing the [aspect] of pointless moaning. I was witness to a discussion about the costs of buying nappies. And the comparison was made (incorrectly) between the price in South Africa and England. It is so pointless to continually moan about something that you cannot change. Do you have any comments on this?

There is an expression I often use, when I hear people complain about how things went wrong: "Did someone hold a loaded gun to your head?" And then this week, I read the following, "Unless you're literally chained up in some dungeon, nothing is holding you back but your own inner nonsense." Now that is great advice. Take responsibility for your actions, and stop blaming other people or circumstances for your bad judgement.

This was a very productive week. I finalized the web site, making corrections in accordance with the SBI analysis.

Although it was my goal to have the site up in the first week of January, I was not able to make it. This made me think of the importance of timescales in goal setting. I was again reminded that meeting a goal on an exact date (or time) is not vitally important. I have a whole section on this in the eaziGOAL manual.

I'm presently reading a great book (Influence: The Psychology of Pursuasion). A review of it will follow shortly.

This week I came across a really neat idea. I found an eCalendar, and although the one I found was for writers, it is a great idea for anyone. www.organizedwriter.com/calendar.htm - pretty cool.

This has been a week of anxiety - waiting for the transfer of the eaziGOAL domain to SiteSell.

This changed on Wednesday, when I received the e-mail that my domain had been successfuly transferred. Wednesday night I began to upload the web pages to SiteBuildIt, and I was somewhat surprised at the optimization hints I was advised to make to the pages. I finished around 11pm on Wednesday night.

I was reminded about something I had read in an HTML book. The author used the example that if you were driving in a barren part of the country, and your car broke down, you certainly would like to know what's going on under the hood. I was glad that I had learnt HTML thoroughly, and did not start with the "easier" HTML editors.

It was a productive week. Time was spent finalizing the eaziGOAL web site.

I had to smile at somethng my wife said: I said the site should be live the week ending 16 Jan, and she smilingly asked whether it was now only a mummy, as it hadn't gone "live" yet :o)

The 1st of January of a new year, and how many of us have new year's resolutions. How many of us will keep these past March of this year? :o)

This morning I remembered something that happened to me about 5 years ago. I was sitting on our verandah, about 7 am on the morning of the 1st, listening to the birds; I looked at the trees and the sky. And listened to the faraway barking of a dog, and I realized something.

Nothing in Nature changes on the 1st of January.

How remarkable we humans are.

One of the best books I've read on the subconscious mind, is John Kehoe's Mind Power for the 21st Century. You can read my review here.

December was a very busy month for me, developing this web site, writing the eaziGOAL manual, and testing the companion software with my developer. I had set the deadline for the sample chapter and demo software for 31 Dec, and we achieved it. Unfortunately due to hiccups with the transfer of our domain to SBI, there was a delay in getting the site up. And this is why the people at SBI give you a heap of advice not to transfer a domain.

2004 starts off very well for me, and I look forward to completing the eaziGOAL manual, and writing further ebooks. I also look forward to improving this site, and giving you valuable content.

I will be reviewing various books, products, and time permitting, also web sites. Be sure to check back here every now and then - there may just be something of value for you.

I find goal setting fascinating, and especially people's view and attitude towards setting goals. There are such differing opinions of goal setting, and unfortunately there are people who do not believe in goal setting. What's your view? Drop me a mail, and I may include your comment in this web log.
