"I don't want to get to the end of my life and find that I have just lived the length of it. I want to have lived the width of it as well." - Diane Ackerman

Book reviews: "Rich Dad Poor Dad"

By Robert T. Kiyosaki
with Sharon L. Lechter, C.P.A.
Published by Warner Books, 1998
ISBN 0 446 61109 3
Soft cover, 266 pages

checkmark   "To elevate the financial well-being of humanity." That is the mission statement of Robert Kiyosaki's company. You will find this philosophy throughout this book.

Although Rich Dad, Poor Dad discusses strategies, and more importantly, attitudes towards money, there is also advice on life. You will discover in the pages that failure is an integral part of life, and is not something that one has to be embarrassed about. In Kiyosaki's words: "There is a difference between being poor and being broke. Broke is temporary, and poor is eternal."

Rich Dad, Poor Dad is not just about money, it is more. "Money is one form of power. But what ismore powerful is financial education. Money comes and goes, but if you have the education about how money works, you gain power over it and can begin building wealth." That is the essence of this book: financial education.

This financial education is presented in a way that makes it interesting reading, and makes accounting basics VERY easy to grasp.

On page 43, this pearl of wisdom: "If you learn life's lessons, you will do well. If not, life will just continue to push you around. People do two things. Some just let life push them around. Others get angry and push back. But they push back against their boss, or their job, or their husband or wife. They do not know it's life that's pushing."

I highly recommend this book to everyone, and especially I suggest every school student reading this book - it can make the difference between a life of misery, and one of success.

Get yourself a copy of Rich Dad, Poor Dad and read it - not once, but many times.
