If you are looking for a book to inspire and motivate, then Movers and Shakers is the book for you.
"Drawing on the lives and impact of over 100 of the world's leading management thinkers and leaders, Movers and Shakers offers concise overviews of the theories behind, and the practice of, successful international business."
The book is divided into two sections. The first is Management Thinkers, and covers people like Kenneth Blanchard, Dale Carnegie, Peter Drucker, Abraham Maslow, to name only a few. There are total of 50 thinkers featured.
The second section is Business Giants, and covers leaders like Jeff Bezos, Warren Buffett, Micahel Dell, David Ogilvy, Estee Lauder, with a total of 77 leaders.
I found the book to be easy reading, with just enough information to inspire, but not bore a person.
Each piece is divided into the following:
Life and Career which gives the reader a basic history, from birth, right up to their position as at 2002. If you have an interest in the history of the world's leaders, this section is great.
Contribution deals with what they did in their industry. This I found to be interesting, as well as inspiring, especially when I read of the obstacles some people overcame.
Context and Conclusions covers brief highlights of the person. An example is: "The youngest CEO ever to run a Fortune 500 company, Michael Dell has joined the ranks of the most revered entrepreneurs in America."
The Best Sources for Help offers additional material should the reader want more information.
I found this book to be a great inspiration, and one that I read regularly.
