Don't let the title of this small book mislead you.
I found this book to be one the most practical to read in a while. And although the title (the 100) may give the impression that this is a mommoth reading task, it is not.
Niven introduces the secret with a short paragraph on the characteristic, then he gives an example from real life, and ends the chapter off with a brief explanation of the original scientific findings.
Although a small book, it is big on content, and a book I believe can easily be read in one night - and then re-read more than once.
The following is an extract from secret #1 - Competence Starts with Feeling Competent:
"Actually, people who do not think they are good at what they do - who do not think they are capable of success or leadership - do not change their opinion even when they are presented with indicators of success. Instead, their self-doubts overrule evidence to the contrary."
And from the scientific research:
"For most people studied, the first step toward improving their job performance had nothing to do with the job itself but instead with improving how they felt about themselves."
I found this book to be a useful reminder, kept handy, and read every now and then.
