Here is the procedure that I use when I review a book, business opportunity, or web site resource.Books
I collect all my goodies, comprising the book, a highlighter, pen or pencil, and a shorthand notepad. These are transported with me wherever I decide to read.
If I don't know the author I start with research on him/her, on the web (this can be anything from 3 to 10 sources).
As I read I make notes in the margins of the book, I underline (straight and squiggly), and I make asterisks in the margins. If I find something that I want to get more information on I draw a border around it, and make a note in the notepad. This ends round one.
With all my markings, scribblings and notes done, I get on the web and start my research on the things I want more info on. This I usually print (depending on the volume). This is normally done per chapter, or at the most per two chapters.
Then at the end of the book I collate all my notes and research material and skim through it again, sometimes adding comments in the margins. At this point I make the notes that I use for my review.
Resources
The starting point of evaluating a goal setting resources is to print the information. This I then read (similar to the way I read a book), making notes of what I want to research further.
My next step is dig all over the web, finding the information for the notes I made, plus I search for related information, in respect of the opportunity, and the person/people and firm offer the opportunity.
I then take all my information and analyze this.
Where I find contradicting or shady information, I generally scrap the whole review.
I spend in the region of 3 to 4 hours researching the web every day (except Saturday and Sunday).
