"If you have been wearily attending the "school of hard knocks" up to now, I have great news for you."
That is the start of the introduction to this great book. And great content there certainly is.
As the name implies, this is indeed a university. The book is actually divided into semesters, covering the vital directives of success.
Irrespective of where you are in life at present, this book can be of assistance. Semester One, Lesson One starts with a Look Back on Where you Have Been; another lesson looks at How to Conquer the Ten Most Common Causes of Failure. It is all there, Make the Most of Your Abilities, to Eliminate Your Bad Habits, to Attract Success, and Enjoy the Best Things in Life.
In his Introduction, Mandino gives the following: "Dale Carnegie, J. Paul Getty, Dr Maxwell Maltz, Napoleon Hill, P.T. Barnum, Norman Vincent Peale, Dr Wayne W. Dyer, W. Clement Stone, Dorothea Brande, Richard DeVos, Benjamin Franklin, Lord Beaverbrook, Joyce Brothers - these are only some of the fifty brilliant minds who have been gathered together for the first time in history in the fulfillment of a dream I have had for many years - to publish the ultimate success book where only the acknowledged masters of that subject were made available to counsel and teach and guide you."
University of Success is a collection of writings from the masters, some of the material originally written in 1910 – but totally applicable to the present time. Each lesson is preceded with a prologue written by Mandino, offering a background or comment on the contents of that lesson.
Having read the book twice completely, with some lessons being read up to four times, I can only say it is one of the best books I have come across in a long time, and gets a five star rating. I confidently recommend this book to anyone who wants more out of life. In the words of James Allen (Lesson 11): "All that a man achieves and all that he fails to achieve is the direct result of his own thoughts."
